Why Take This Course?
It seems like everyone has a different way of talking about content strategy. It all boils down to a simple proposition: orchestrating people and processes in order to deliver the right information to the right audience at the right time. Content strategy is about using content to solve problems and drive outcomes where business goals intersect with customer needs.

Whether you’re new to content strategy, transitioning from a related role, or already working as a content strategist, this workshop will give you an introduction to the discipline and help you deepen your understanding of the practice.

(And here’s a reason NOT to take this course: If you’re looking for information on best practices in content marketing. That field is concerned with social media posts, blogs, and marketing content, which is not what we’ll be discussing here.)

Course Description
In this two-part workshop, you can expect to get a broad overview of the content strategy discipline and the chance to apply strategic methods to different scenarios and user flows. You’ll get an introduction to the primary tools of content strategy so you can get a picture of what content strategists do and how they spend their time. We won’t go deep on tactics like audits, editorial schedules, or governance plans, but we will go deep on strategy. Since content strategy roles span across product and marketing domains, we’ll touch on both. Here’s the list of topics we plan to cover:

  • An overview of what content strategy is, and how various content roles are defined in the marketplace

  • An introduction to common content strategy tools

  • The key components of a content strategy framework

  • Making use of data, research, and competitive analysis

  • Developing messaging for different platforms and channels

  • Succeeding as a content strategist (and as a human being) in design and tech

Prerequisites and Requirements
There are no prerequisites. This workshop is for writers of all stripes, product managers, and designers who would like to have a solid understanding of the principles of content strategy.
