“Bruce's class was super fun and inspirational! loved the use of a live model and the exercises Bruce led us through. Can't wait to keep drawing!”
Why Take This Course?
With the pressures of deadlines and a bulging to-do list, it’s not hard for teams to feel burnt out or uninspired. With this series, SVC will put together a custom program of guest presenters to stir things up, show you what’s possible, and get everyone excited about doing inspiring work. So why take this course? Because everyone needs to shake things up every now and then.
Who Should Take This Class?
This course is for strategists, product managers, designers, writers, and anyone whose team needs to come up with creative solutions.
Course Outcomes
Leave inspired and primed to do more interesting, innovative work
Learn about the success stories of leading marketing and creative professionals
Collaborate with team members to come up with breakthrough thinking
Course Description
We’ll put together a custom line-up of speakers depending on your team’s interests and needs. Here are a few examples of presenters from past similar workshops.
DESIGNING FROM A BLANK SHEET OF PAPER
Devin Liddell, the Principal Futurist for the design firm, TEAGUE, shares some speculative projects his firm developed to challenge themselves on the future of transportation. Devin shows what’s possible when the sky is literally the limit.
HOW A DISTINCT MAN BUILDS DISTINCT BRANDS
Stanley Hainsworth (pictured above) served in creative director roles for Lego, Starbucks, and Nike before starting Tether in 2008. Stanley operates on the principle that “we are the stories we tell,” believing that brand love comes from storytelling.
THE ART OF TAKING NOTES
Every day we have the opportunity to form ideas, build concepts, and express them through words. Sometimes, however, in getting our ideas onto paper, important details get lost. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to quickly transcribe and communicate ideas through pencraft and note-taking techniques from German designer Sean Loomis.
WHO COMES UP WITH THE COLOR OF THE YEAR?
Ever wonder where the Pantone Color of the Year comes from? Meet Leatrice Eiseman, the director of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, and Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. She is arguably the world’s leading expert on color trends, and she’ll share how she arrives at her color recommendations.
FEARLESS DRAWING
This isn’t a learn-how-to-draw class (although you will). It’s more about surprising yourself by finding you’re better than you think you are if you're given the freedom to make mistakes and block fear and criticism. Illustrator Bruce Morser will guide you through this eye-opening revelation.

Soft Skills for Everyone
In addition to whatever technical talent you bring to the job, you also need to be a great colleague, a crack time-manager, and an ace writer and presenter — all soft skills we’ll help you improve in this workshop.
-

Thinking Strategically
Getting some clarity around “strategy” (vs. tactics, sales goals, and mission) and how to come up with a successful one is a skill that can be learned. And this is the workshop where it all comes together.

Letterpress Play Day
In a world of digital everything, it’s refreshing to step away from the keyboard and create with your hands. Bring the team to SVC’s offshoot, Partners in Print, for a day of poster printing, collaboration, and fun.
