For Students

A few things to know if you’re enrolled at SVC.

We’re not a school that’s big on protocol and process, but here are few details you’ll want to know when you attend a class or workshop here:

When do classes meet?
Professional development workshops are held during the day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most software training and portfolio classes are held in the evening; usually from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.

What are SVC'S office hours?
While classes are in session, SVC office hours are typically 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Between quarters, the office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays.

When does the next quarter start?
Although we've been known to change our minds depending on when certain holidays fall each year, here's a fairly reliable guide to when each quarter starts and ends:

Fall 2013 September 23, 2013 December 5, 2013
Winter 2014 January 6, 2014 March 17, 2014
Spring 2014 March 31, 2014 June 9, 2014
Summer 2014 June 16, 2014 August 28, 2014

How do I get to SVC?
Most classes and workshops are taught at 500 Aurora Avenue N. near the Seattle Center. Here's a map to help you find us. And, if you'd like to take Metro Transit to SVC, Routes 28 and 26 stop one block from the School at Republican and Dexter. For timetables, visit Metro Transit's Web site.

Where should I park?
Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis right in front of the school. Street parking at 10-hour meters is also available on Republican Street and Dexter Avenue. For those attending night classes, those meters are free after 8 p.m.

Who can I ask about my tuition payments?
Any questions about billing and refunds for cancelled classes can be answered by our office staff during normal business hours. Call 206-623-1560 or drop an email to

Does SVC Offer Financial Aid?
SVC does not provide student loans. We will, however, allow students to make payments based on this schedule:

5-Week Classes:
  • 1/2 payment due at registration
  • 1/2 payment due at 3rd week of class
10-Week Classes:
  • 1/3 payment due at registration
  • 1/3 payment due at 3rd week of class
  • 1/3 payment due at 6th week of class

There is a $25 charge per quarter for using the above extended payment plan. Any unpaid balances due on SVC's payment plan will accrue a monthly 1.5% finance charge. The payment plan is not available for one-day workshops.

How do I get a refund for a cancelled class?
SVC may, on occasion, cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. Students will be notified as soon as possible when a class is cancelled, and will receive a full refund of all fees for cancelled classes.

How do I get a refund if I drop a class?
You may also receive a partial refund of your tuition if you drop a class or don’t show up for a one-day workshop. In these cases, this is the schedule for determining the amount of your refund:

# of Classes Attended % Tuition Refunded
0 100% (if dropped before 3 business days of class start)
1 75%
2 50%
3+ 0%

# of Classes Attended % Tuition Refunded
0 100% (if dropped before 3 business days of class start)
1 90%
2 75%
3–5 50%
6+ 0%

When calculating refunds, the official date of a student’s termination is the last day of recorded attendance:

  • (a) When the school receives notice of the student’s intention to discontinue the training program; or,
  • (b) When the student is terminated for a violation of a published school policy which provides for termination; or,
  • (c) When a student, without notice, fails to attend classes for thirty calendar days.
  • All refunds must be paid within thirty calendar days of the student’s official termination date.

Should you withdraw from a class within three business days of its start, then you'll receive a refund of 90% of the tuition. If you paid SVC's $45 registration fee when you signed up for the class, that fee will not be refunded, but won't be required again when you sign up for other classes.

There is a $75 cancellation fee for no-shows and enrollees dropping a one-day workshop without a valid excuse within 3 business days of the scheduled start time as published on the SVC website.

This refund policy is in accordance with Washington State Law, 490-105-130 (RCW 28C.10.050 (1)(b)).

If you drop a class because you're unhappy with the quality of the instruction then SVC would definitely like to talk with you and work out a more favorable refund.
