Why Take This Course?
The pace and volume of work most creative teams are asked to handle is staggering these days. It’s only natural that designers and writers who are stressed for time tend to fall back on safer, tried-and-true solutions. The problem, of course, is that uninspired creative concepts usually deliver uninspired results. This workshop aims to give creative team members methods to keep their work fresh and powerful, but without slowing down the process. Yes, that really is possible.

Who Should Take This Class?
This workshop is for anyone who is asked to develop ideas and creative concepts for ads, social media, videos, presentations or any other communication where an intrusive, persuasive concept is needed.

Course Outcomes
• Develop the ability to focus on the idea, rather than the execution, at the concept stage.

• Learn techniques for using AI, free stock photography, and creative inspiration to speed the concept development process.

• Understand the importance of working from a creative brief, even if only a sentence or two of strategic direction.

Course Description
An all-star creative director once instructed her team to “make the layouts plain, but the ideas fancy.” That’s great advice, because brilliant thinking comes from spending your time developing ideas, not rendering them to a high level of finish. So, in this workshop, we’ll look at ways to literally think faster and present concepts at a rougher stage where they can be evaluated without time wasted on execution and finessing. We’ll also plan to cover these topics:

  • What is a concept anyway? And how do you distill one down to a few words or images for rapid development and presentation?

  • What to do when creative briefs don’t distill the assignment, or when there is no brief

  • Ways to think faster and express your ideas with the bare minimum of execution

  • How to evaluate creative work so you only take the top ideas forward (and can present them convincingly)

  • Coming up with visuals to communicate your ideas, even if you believe you can’t draw

  • How to use (and not abuse) AI tools to help you develop ideas more rapidly
