Content isn't just words. It's everything that goes into a web site -- copy, images, videos, blog feeds, metadata, and more. So, what's a content strategy? It's a plan that works out where the content comes from, how it's updated, and --most important -- how your content is working for your site's visitors.
If how content is handled on your site is a little hit-and-miss, this workshop will help you pull things together with the result being a more organized, more effective site. Some of the specifics we'll cover include:
Content Strategy Basics: What, Why, When, Where, How, Who Case Studies: Websites with content strategy, and websites without CS & UX: How content strategy fits into design and user experience Skills: What talents a content strategist needs to have Deliverables: The tools of the content strategists' trade Practice: How one goes about doing content strategy Context: The state of the discipline, and content strategy outside the web
This is an intro to mid-level workshops for marcom managers, emerging content strategists, web writers, designers, information architects and other people who’d like to improve their work with better content.
James Callan has been tinkering with online content for over 15 years, starting as a copywriter. His Great Content Strategy Awakening happened in 2008, while he was a copywriter at Classmates.com. (He can tell you the secret to unsubscribing from their newsletters.) Since then he's become a royal pest and a valuable asset, promoting the business value of quality content. He's currently the in-house content strategist at Sur La Table as part of their Ecommerce Team. He's also handy on a pub quiz team.
