You are looking at a Web site. And a rather nicely designed one, at that. But don't you think you could do better? As a Web Designer, you'll get plenty of chances to find out.

Despite the dot-comedy of businesses coming and mostly going over the last couple of years, Web Design remains a growing profession. Why? Because companies that aren't going away, like VW, Starbucks, and several thousand others have developed a voracious appetite for Web sites.

Fortunately for you, these sites are fairly perishable as new technology makes last year's version obsolete. So a Web Designer's work, thankfully, is never done.

It's work that entails all the elements of good graphic design: Concept, layout, typography, color, texture, and imagery. But there are also some wrinkles traditional designers seldom get to work with, like animation, audio, interactivity, and video.

So how do you decide if you should head for print-oriented graphic design or make the leap into new media?

Do you like collaborating with others on large, complex projects? Does your VCR actually display the correct time? Do you think in terms of scenes, rather than pages?

If you answered "yes," there really is no question: You're a Web Designer at heart.
