The idea is to keep web pages within the blue zone for width, or at least within the green zone. This way you're assured they'll fit on 14-inch monitors for both Mac and PC users. Screen height can be whatever you want since vertical scrolling is less difficult. But if you want those 14-inch viewers to take in the whole picture, don't exceed more than about 400 pixels in height.
